Fringe in the news for July 26

And now, news from around the infowebs… Today’s theme: Greater Minnesota represent!

Shout out to Coco on MSN

MSN City Guides calls out Minnesota Fringe in a great guide to summer theater festivals across the country:

The rules, according to Executive Director Robin Gillette, are simple: “The only thing we ask is that the artists obey the laws of Minneapolis and of physics. Everything else is up for grabs.”

I love that quote. And, also, I love that Coco Fondue—our resident queen of the lottery—gets a shout-out on MSN.

Women light up the stage

Minnesota Women’s Press has a preview article about two shows in the festival, “If a Tree Falls” and “My War: From Bismarck to Britain and Back.”

“Minnesota’s Fringe is a vibrant event and a great venue for people to experience new things,” said Carol Flint-Kaliebe, an Edina artist performing at the 15th annual festival. “This is a terrific chance to showcase our work, get feedback and see what others are doing, too.”

Blog roundup

Catfight! and Fringe boy done good

Here’s your news and blog round up for Monday:

  • The political blog Dump Michele Bachmann (three guesses how that one leans) is talking about John Ervin’s Catfight!
  • Chaska Herald says: He’s got ‘Curb Appeal’, which is a nice little feature story about Sasha Andreev, an actor who was in “10 Speed Revolution” a few years ago… and is now a fancy schmancy presenter on HGTV
  • …and, as an added bonus, the Kansas City Star has an interview with Cheryl Kimmi, the Fringe coördinator down there. It has nothing to do with our Fringe, but it’s still an interesting read. Also: Good luck with your Fringe, KC!

Full schedule on the Strib site—and PiPress!

If you’re looking for the full Minnesota Fringe ’08 schedule but—for whatever reason—can’t stand our Web site, try the StarTribune.com’s entertainment schedule. They’ve listed the whole thing, top to bottom, and even gave us our own category.

You can now search for theater, dance, comedy, spoken word, readings or Fringe. I like that we’re our own category. Oh, yes, I like it a lot.

UPDATE: AND the Pioneer Press has our full schedule up, too! Have I mentioned Minneapolis-St. Paul has the best press in the history of human language ever? Because we do.

Fringe Binge on KFAI’s “Fresh Fruit”

Last night, bunches of Fringe artists were featured on KFAI’s “Fresh Fruit” program. It was the eighth year Dixie Treichel and John Townsend have hosted us on their show—and it’s “Fresh Fruit”‘s 30th anniversary, making it the longest-running queer/LGBT radio show in the whole dang country, yo.

Listen to “Fresh Fruit” (RealPlayer) and check out “Fresh Fruit”‘s page on KFAI.org
